Watercress Line

War on the Miniature Line

For the War on the Line event we decorated some of the recently constructed fencing at Ropley High Level station with various posters with a theme of “Railways at War”. One of our home made posters gave the following advice to passengers:

IN CASE OF ENEMY ATTACK
IN THE EVENT OF THE TRAIN COMING UNDER ENEMY FIRE, DON’T PANIC!
PLEASE OBEY THE EVACUATION INSTRUCTIONS THAT WE WILL SHOUT TO YOU FROM OUR AIR RAID SHELTER!
BY ORDER: Captain Mainwaring

One of our younger members, Andrew Haysom, made a very convincing looking “250lb bomb”. Apparently the tail of this was from a lamp shade – I just hope that his Mother has not yet noticed that it has gone missing! This was placed on a wagon and left in the station near the sand drag and later attached to some of the service trains. It did cause quite a stir, particularly when we asked passengers if they could hear something ticking!

The feedback we got regarding the event as a whole was very positive and thanks are due to all who helped over both days at the Miniature Railway including Richard Matthews, Andrew Haysom, Ben Skelton, Callum Dyer, Ben Skelton, Cameron Palmer, Keith Hoddy, Martin Pratt, Dave Hill and Tony Neal.
