Thank you to everyone who attended the ULS open day last Saturday, it was great to see so many familiar faces and a good number of new ones as well; the sun certainly shone on us with a significant sum being raised towards 499. With the open day gone, we will now be starting the front end rebuild in earnest – centre casting is going to be trial fitted this coming weekend.
Back to the open day, we were delighted to unveil 2 significant acquisitions which show our intent to restore 499, as far as possible, to how she appeared when first out-shopped from Eastleigh in 1920. A legacy we received earlier this year galvanised our thoughts that it should be used towards a significant aspect of the project…what better use than the pattern for a stovepipe chimney? Pattern duly made, the world’s newest stovepipe chimney was cast only a week ago and proudly put on display last weekend for all to see. Later in the afternoon we were equally delighted to receive the pattern for a new safety valve cover which we hope to have cast later in the summer.
Thank you all for your continuing support, the riveting of 499 starts now!
