9th Apr 2016 in Can Pac Blogs
The Canadian Pacific Project Team recently exhibited at the Who Do You Think You Are? Live Show at the NEC Birmingham, 7-9th April 2016. It was an intense 3 days but it was wonderful to meet loads of new faces who were interested in the project and visiting the Watercress Line. Amongst the many new faces it was lovely to bump into a number of volunteers, members and locals of the line.
Armed with a new display, pop-up and lots of leaflets we were feeling confident for the start of the show on 7th April. Throughout, the 3 days we spoke to a large number of people about different aspects of the project from the restoration to our research on women’s roles on the railway. We also actively promoted the many events and sights that we offer here at the railway, handing out a large number of leaflets.
For this show we produced a new leaflet focusing on ‘how to research your railway ancestors’ (now available below). The leaflet went down really well and we were surprised by how many people didn’t know where to start with researching their railway ancestors. We were very keen to point out that many former roles on railways are now replicated on the Watercress Line. This is an aspect that we will be utilising at future shows to increase visitors to the railway.
We directly spoke to over 400 of 13,215 people who attended the Who Do You Think You Are? Live Show, with many others stopping to browse or pick up leaflets. This has been the largest event that the CanPac team have attended so far! Overall it was a success!!
