The Canadian Pacific (CanPac) Project aims to restore the oldest surviving Merchant Navy class steam locomotive and two Bulleid designed carriages, whilst involving and engaging with a wide range of members of the public. In doing so we aim to be “Engineering the Future from the Past” by passing on a number of craft skills that are required to maintain this incredible piece of engineering. Most of the funding for this project has been secured through a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, however we still need your help! You can help in a number of ways:
Help us raise funds
We still have to raise another £200,000 for the £1.5million CanPac project. Any donations you make are greatly appreciated, no matter how small you might think they are.

If you have any spare tools that you think may be of use, please get in touch as they may well be just what we’re looking for!
Volunteer your time
If you are able to spare any free time to be a part of our team bringing this magnificent steam engine and rare carriages back to life, please get in touch. We have volunteer opportunities in Eastleigh and Ropley. Without our volunteers this project would be impossible!
Share your memories
Tell us a story! We will be recording people’s experiences with travelling on the powerful express and freight services that Canadian Pacific and similar locomotives would have worked between London and the south coast of England from the 1940’s to late 1960’s. Perhaps you commuted, caught a boat train, had a holiday or were even evacuated during the Second World War to the south of England. Alternatively you may have worked on the lines, locomotives, stations or even in Eastleigh’s works. Maybe you enjoyed the pastime of trainspotting and saw Canadian Pacific working hard. We would love to hear your story!
Share your images or movies
Calling all enthusiasts - we would love to be able to make use of your photographs or videos of 35005 Canadian Pacific. They may have been taken at any point in its life. It will help us promote and support the overhaul and create a legacy for our flagship steam locomotive!
Keep up-to date with the project
If you wish to follow progress with the project and be given early notifications of guided tours of both Eastleigh and Ropley works, please click here to subscribe to our newsletter. Your details will be held securely and not shared without your permission. We will be conducting a number of guided tours at Eastleigh and Ropley.
