Job Vacancy: Locomotive and Carriage Fitter

As one of the Country’s leading Heritage Railways and Hampshire’s top tourist attractions, the Mid Hants Railway is offering an exciting opportunity for a loco & carriage fitter to join our small, but dedicated team, restoring steam locomotives and heritage rolling stock at Ropley (SO24 0BL).

We are seeking a self-driven, conscientious tradesperson with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and be sympathetic to the value and significance of our heritage artefacts. A natural forward planner who can critically assess mechanical components. Reliable and tolerant being able to plan and schedule not only their own work but engage with volunteers. Able to get on with others, be a team-player and fully safety aware.

An experienced mechanical fitter able to demonstrate their capability to safely work under minimal supervision. Ideally qualified to use gas cutting and MIG & Arc welding equipment; the post holder will need to be competent in the use of hand tools and be prepared to undertake a variety of jobs. Previous experience preferred but not essential as on the job training will be given.

Normal working hours, Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:15 with 45mins lunch break. Some weekend or out of hours working may be required. Holiday entitlement is 20 days plus bank holidays.

Salary subject to experience.
