The local public recently took to social media to name Hampshire’s first gin train, coming to the Watercress Line on Saturday 5th May.
The Watercress Line recently gave the opportunity to its Facebook followers to create the name for the headboard of the train. Over 1,200 people voted, with ‘Juniper Express’ topping the public vote with over 300 nominations. Close contenders included ‘Tonic the Tank EnGINe’, ‘The Botanical’, ‘Mother’s Ruin’, ‘Ginny McGin Face’ and ‘The Gin Reaper’.
Sponsored by Fever-Tree and in partnership with Winchester Distillery and Pulpo Negro, the first-time unique experience on Saturday 5 May demonstrates gin’s rise in popularity by selling out in ten minutes. A second event added for Friday 29 June proved even more popular, selling out in two minutes.
Gin lovers on board the Juniper Express will be able to enjoy cocktails created with Winchester Distillery’s famous Twisted Nose Gin, appropriately made with locally grown watercress. The excitement doesn’t stop there, as guests can also enjoy an array of tantalising authentic Spanish tapas followed by a mouth-watering main course from Hampshire's legendary Pulpo Negro, all experienced onboard a nostalgic steam train.
