The Watercress Line announces first locos for 2019 Spring Steam Gala

The Watercress Line has announced the first heritage locomotives to appear at its upcoming Spring Steam Gala on 8-10 March 2019, the ex-London Transport Pannier Tank L92 and the No. 300 Frank S. Ross in Longmoor Military Railway Lined Blue.

The ex-London Transport Pannier Tank L92 will be visiting the Mid Hants Railway resplendent in London Transport livery, courtesy of the Worcester Locomotive Society and South Devon Railway.

The Great Western Railway 5700 Class, or 57xx class, is a class of 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotive built between 1929 and 1950. The L92 was built in 1930. She was sold to London Transport in 1958 before she was renumbered L92.

The ‘steam’ packed three day event will also give visitors the chance to go behind the scenes at its Ropley workshop and yard, as well as see and ride the Watercress Line’s home fleet.

What’s more, the Watercress Line’s Real Ale bar will be available on one of its trains each day, while the ‘Queen Mary’ brake van will be available for rides on the freight train.

The full line-up of heritage locomotives will be announced shortly.
