We invite families to dust off their walking boots to raise funds to preserve an important part of our heritage railway, when our annual sponsored Walk The Line returns on 10th November 2018.
There are three lengths of walk for families to choose from: three, six and 10 miles. The three mile ‘family stroll’ starts with a free vintage bus ride from Alresford to Ropley. From Ropley, families then walk the three miles back to Alresford.
The six mile ‘Downhill’ runs from Medstead and Four Marks station to Alresford. While the 10 mile walk from Alton station and ‘over the Alps’ to Alresford offers a more challenging route for Hampshire’s most adventurous families.
Each walk offers families the opportunity to experience the railway from a completely different view, and enjoy a peaceful stroll in the heart of quintessential English countryside.
Walk The Line is a fantastic opportunity for all the family to see the Watercress Line from a different view and play an important part in securing the future of Hampshire’s heritage railway.
Money raised from the sponsored walk will be used to re-ballast a section of 1000 yards of track at Wanders Curve between Medstead and Four Marks and Ropley and, subsequently, maintain the trackbed that families will be walking along.
Walkers aged 16 and above are expected to raise a minimum of £10 sponsorship, or be willing to make a donation of at least that amount. Walkers under 16 are encouraged to raise sponsorship but it is not expected. They must, however, be accompanied on the walk by somebody over the age of 16.
All three walks begin between 10am and 11am. Trains will not be running.
